Position Summary

The Youth Intervention Specialist provides 24-hr supervision/guidance to program participants while assisting in their daily activities. The Youth Intervention Specialist assists in the implementation of the residents’ Individual Service Plans and program objectives.  The Youth Intervention Specialist maintains current/timely documentation on youth in the Next Step Youth Shelter and Next Step Independent Living program. Additionally, the Youth Intervention Specialist assists in the coordination and transportation of residents to activities as required.

Some of the duties include:

Provides on-site monitoring and supervision of the youth during assigned work hours, which may involve working varying shifts and sites
Conducts and documents external perimeter checks of cluster site apartments per shift to ensure the safety of the residents and staff
Documents observations to in progress notes and log any staff interactions with youth, families, social workers, providers and client-related contacts
Ensures that at curfew hour, all outside youth activity will cease and all youth are in their respective apartments or assigned dorm room with doors closed and secure
Reviews daily Activity Log/emails and follows through with the requests of the administrative/case management staff
Assists with, implements and facilitates Life Skills instruction and other supportive services as directed
Assists residents in achieving the goals and objectives of the Individual Service Plan and assists the residents with life and social skills development on a daily basis
Manages all crisis situations by utilizing Handle with Care techniques and procedures to ensure a safe and stable environment
Responds competently/accurately to all crisis inquiries posed by the DCFS Hotline social workers
Transports clients as required
Performs other duties as assigned
Qualifications

Our ideal candidate has a High School Diploma or GED; Associate Degree preferred, including a minimum of two years’ experience working with at-risk youth.  The candidate must also complete training requirements (CPR, First-Aid, Restraint, etc.), have a valid driver’s license and provide proof of insurance. Preferred.
